Putting yourself in the shoes of someone who hears voices.
That’s exactly what a handful of people did this morning and on Thursday as the local branch of the Canadian Mental Health Association held a “hearing voices” workshop in Dryden.
Peer Support Worker Crystal Norris says the participants started off by watching a video talking about the experiment, and then they were assigned tasks to do while listening to a recording of “voices”.
Norris says it really enlightens people on how those who hear voices can be treated and opens their eyes on how they are going to be more patient.
Norris adds that everyone who takes the workshop comes away with a sense of what it feels like for those who have mental health illnesses.
The workshop is usually offered once a year, but if there is a great demand by an employer or company, than the CMHA offers them more frequently.
