Hefty Fine For Lac Des Iles Mine

The Lac Des Iles Mine, north of Thunder Bay, has been fined a total of $365,000 after separate incidents in 2014 in which one worker was injured and another killed on the job.

In July, one miner was operating an underground loader and was killed instantly after being struck and crushed by a run of muck or rock.

Earlier, in February, another equipment operator was injured while working above ground at the mine.

The worker was loading trucks with an excavator when a large amount of material crashed down on the machine.

It crushed the operator’s cab.
