Canada and the U.S. Government’s are giving more power to authorities to help police border waters.
A framework agreement will allow law enforcement personnel to jointly work on Lake of the Woods and Rainy Lake.
Justice Minister Rob Nicholson says the officers will have the power to enforce laws on both sides of the border.
Nicholson says he hopes to have the new marine units in place by next summer.
He adds the measures will help put a stop to criminals using the waters to smuggle drugs and people.
