High Hydro Rates Killing Investment In Ontario

The high cost of electricity in Ontario has been costing the province thousands of manufacturing jobs.

A report by the Fraser Institute shows over the last decade almost 75,000-thousand jobs were lost due to the high cost of hydro.

University of Guelph Economics Professor Ross McKitrick says while all jurisdictions were hit hard by the recession, our province was even harder hit.

McKitrick questions if we will ever recover, noting no one wants to set-up shop in Ontario because of the cost of electricity.

McKitrick says since the recession in 2008, Ontario has lost about 117,000 manufacturing jobs, and about 64% can be blamed on the high cost of electricity.
