HNO Looking At Body Contact Rules

It seems like Hockey Northwestern Ontario is interested in taking body checking out of Peewee Hockey.
Last week, Hockey Alberta became the latest league to ban body checking from the 11 and 12 year old age group.
HNO General Manager Trevor Hosanna says they have discussed taking the same action.
Hosanna says they are in favour of removing checking to the Bantam level but stresses they aren’t at the point to make a formal decision.
Hosanna says data does show there is a greater risk of long term injuries for kids who get injured in Peewee Hockey.
He stresses there are some checking skills that need to be taught to younger kids.
Hosanna says Hockey Canada is having their annual meeting later this month where they might vote on a national change against body checking in Peewee hockey.
