Hockey Northwestern Ontario believes the game is safer today then it was last week.
HNO is supporting a Canadian Hockey ruling to eliminate body checking from the Peewee level.
General Manager Trevor Hosanna says it will give coaches and players more time to focus on positioning, angling, stick checks and contact confidence.
Hosanna adds the body checking ban will also allow kids to develop their offensive and puck handling skills.
He believes the ban will also help keep more local kids in the game.
Hosanna says they traditionally see a drop-off in numbers once kids hit the peewee level.
