The Mayor of Thunder Bay has apologized after alleging the City’s former police chief read text messages sent to a police officer without permission.
Mayor Keith Hobbs claimed in a March news conference that then-chief Robert Herman read messages he sent to an unnamed officer’s police-issued phone.
The mayor made the snooping allegations after Herman filed a complaint against Hobbs with the Ontario Civilian Police Commission, saying Hobbs revealed confidential information from a private police board meeting to an outside party.
Herman launched a $700,000 libel and slander suit against the mayor after the allegations, but said yesterday he’s dropping the legal action.
Herman says he accepts the mayor’s apology and that the dispute is now over.
