New Prospect School in Dryden will be home to a new Hockey Skills Academy this Fall.
The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board course has been a success in Sioux Lookout and Kenora and blends academics with athletics.
Teacher/Coach Bill Reid was a guest on the CKDR Morning Show Thursday and says students will have the potential of an extra 110-hours of ice time during the year.
Reid says the focus is on academics but it’s also a skills based program focusing on skating, shooting and passing.
He believes it will go a long way to improve the skills of guys and girls as it gives them a season, within a season.
There are 135 hockey academies in Canada.
The Canadian Tire Jumpstart program is playing a leading role to ensure the long term success of the program.
The deadline to register is July 17th and for more information visit www.kpdsb.on.ca or contact New Prospect School.
