Hospital CEO Supports Change in Program

The CEO of the Dryden Regional Health Centre is urging area Hospitals to support proposed changes to Ontario’s Underserviced Area Program.
The Provincial Government is holding consultations on its plan to help area communities attract physicians.
Wade Petranik says the revamped program assists small, rural and northern municipalities.
Petranik says Northerners need speak out about the need to change the program as he stresses Southern Ontario communities are strongly opposed to modifications.
The Government initiative was created in 1969 to assist Northern Ontario communities in recruiting physicians, however the program has become swamped by Southern communities.
