The Dryden Regional Health Centre Board of Directors held a lively
debate Monday about going 100% smoke free and in the end decided
to work towards a complete ban in the next few years.
Board Chair Kathy Bryck says they support a smoking ban on Hospital
property in principle but notes its a sensitive issue.
Bryck says they are a healthcare facility and should be proactive in
the fight against second hand smoke but notes they must be sensitive to the
concerns of staff, patients and visitors.
While administration has been asked to come up with ideas to reach the
smoke-free target, staff stress smoking is not allowed within 9-metres of
the facility under Ontario law.
