The Ontario government says its protecting public safety by ensuring hunters do not discharge firearms carelessly.
Larry Hollister of Kingston has been found guilty of carelessly discharging his firearm while hunting and received $7,000 in fines and a two-year hunting suspension.
He must also complete an education program before obtaining another hunting licence.
Court heard that an investigation determined that on October 23, 2018, Hollister was moose hunting from his ATV on a logging road between Ear Falls and Red Lake.
He discharged his high-powered rifle at a six-month old Labrador Retriever and in the direction of two individuals, the dog’s owner and Hollister’s hunting companion.
The dog and the two other individuals were not injured in the incident.
