Hunting Violation

Two Northeastern Ontario men have been banned from hunting for 1 and 2 years after illegally killing a moose near Atikokan.

MNR Officers seized a pair of rifles last October after acting on a tip that a cow moose had been shot without a valid tag.

22-year-old Brian Sampson and 44-year-old Dennis Harwood, both of Callander, were fined a total of $2,500.

Sampson was forced to forfeit his firearm to the Crown.

Meantime, the MNR has raised fines for fishing violations.

For example, fishing without a license will now net you a $155 fine, more than 3 times the old penalty.
