Energy Minister Brad Duguid says hydro rate hikes are needed because of the billions of dollars spent on badly needed upgrades to the system that previous governments failed to make.
And, the expensive hours for using electricity will change slightly next spring as the Ontario government moves to cut soaring hydro bills.
Government sources tell The Canadian Press that starting May, off-peak electricity rates in Ontario will start at 7 p-m instead of at 9.
