Ice Dogs Add Some Experienced Depth On Defence

The Dryden GM Ice Dogs have made a move that they believe will bolster their blueline.

The Ice Dogs have acquired 20-year-old defenceman Brendan Jay from the Soo Thunderbirds.

In return, Dryden GM gives up Garett Giertuga.

Jay has major junior hockey experience in Northern Ontario, B.C. and Manitoba.

In 30-games last season, the Vancouver native registered 11-assists and 41-penalty minutes with Soo.

Jay was named the 2016 Most Valuable Player in the Keystone Cup, the Junior ‘B’ championship for Western Canada.

Head Coach Kurt Walsten compares Jay to Scott Stevens, predicting he will be one of the best defenceman in the SIJHL this season.

Walsten notes he has the ability to play both ends of the rink.

Jay is 6’3 and 225-pounds and plays a physical game.
