THe Dryden Ice Dogs are the Bill Salonen Cup SIJHL Champions after a 1-0 win over the Fort William North Stars at home Saturday night. It was a full house at the Dryden Memorial Arena the “dog pound” that witnessed a tight checking affair. The only goal of the game came at 4:43 of the third period when Chris Kitt found the puck in the slot and put it home. Nicolas Doiron and Chad Liley garnered the assists. Graeme Harrington made 34 saves for the shut-out victory. Dryden wins the best of 7 SIJHL final 4 game to 1 and will now head to the Dudley Hewitt Cup in Newmarket beginning the 22nd of April. Meanwhile one other team booked their ticket to Newmarket. The Sudbury Jr. Wolves swept the NOJHL final with a 2-1 overtime win over the Abitibi Eskimos. The Oakville Blades can capture the OPJHL title with a win over the Markham Waxers tomorrow night.
