The impact of the game in the standings will be an after thought as it’s the cause that the Dryden GM Ice Dogs will be playing for on Saturday.
The Junior Hockey team is hosting its Annual Best Western Plus ‘Pink the Rink’ Cancer Awareness game.
Trey Palermo, Graham Oliphant and captain Trevor Kavanaugh were guests on the CKDR Morning Show Thursday to talk about the game.
The regular season game featuring the Dryden GM Ice Dogs and the Thunder Bay North Stars will be a fundraiser for the Dryden Regional Health Centre.
Fans are asked to wear pink and they will also have a chance to purchase the special jerseys the team will be wearing.
Team calendars will be on sale for $25 and there will be a silent auction.
The organization will also recognize cancer survivors who are in attendance.
Oliphant says it’s one game out of the year where they can raise cancer awareness, noting too many families in Dryden are impacted by the disease.
Palermo stresses it’s huge that they can go out and play for those who have survived and those who have lost their life to cancer.
Kavanaugh says his team will be going out and playing their heart out for all cancer victims, noting it’s the only thing that they can do.
There will also be an autograph session after the game.
Meantime, CKDR auctioned off the Ella Lynn’s Cancer jersey on the Morning Show Thursday.
The Nault family had the highest bid at $700.
