Ignace has entered into the site selection process for a used nuclear fuel repository site.
The Nuclear Waste Management Organization will now undertake various studies to see if the community is the right fit to be a host site.
Spokesperson Michael Krizanc says Ignace can enter and leave the process at any time.
He notes its a $16 to $24 billion project that will last many generations.
The site selection process is expected to take 7 to 10 years to complete
An information kiosk is now set up at Ignace Town Hall.
Krizanc notes that residents will likely have a number of questions, including transportation and operations.
Ear Falls is already working with the Organization on starting on a feasibility study.
