The list of potential sites for an underground nuclear repository in Ontario has been narrowed down to seven.
No more geological studies are being planned in White River and Central Huron, while studies will continue in Ignace.
Pat Dolcetti is with the Nuclear Waste Management Organization and he says activities are being expanded in the Hornepayne-Manitouwadge area.
Dolcetti says a site will be chosen by 2023, but storage won’t happen until 2045.
He notes the bundles of waste are stored with layers of protection, for a very long time.
Dolcetti says 90% of the waste currently sits safely in warehouses in southern Ontario.
