A new report is shining a light on the severity of the homelessness situation in rural and northern Ontario.
The document is published by the Rural Ontario Institute and suggests hidden homelessness is a growing concern.
Lakehead University professor Rebecca Schiff is one of the authors and says the homeless problem is probably a bigger issue here than in larger urban areas.
However, Schiff says the exact number of people without homes is unknown due to people who are living in bush camps, vehicles, emergency shelters or couch-surfing.
She blames a lack of affordable housing, addiction problems and mental health disorders for the problem.
