Some help for children and youth on the Wunnumin Lake First Nation.
Health Minister Jane Philpott visited the remote northern community Wednesday with Kenora MP Bob Nault to announce almost $1-million in funding.
$500,000 will be used for the planning of a new healthcare facility.
Nault says area First Nation communities are faced with significant challenges when it comes to providing high quality health services and he believes the funding will lay the platform to improve those services.
Wunnumin Lake is one of three remote communities in the north whose nursing services are managed by the community but funded by Health Canada.
$465,000 will go to the Choose Life Project, which provides mental health support for people who are considered at risk of suicide.
The program is a two-year pilot project.
