Why did so many Canadians feel motivated to vote this past weekend?
Elections Canada says more than 3.6 million people cast ballots, a 71% increase over advance poll numbers in 2011.
University of New Brunswick Political Science Professor J.P. Lewis says social media was a big factor in the numbers.
He also contributes the length of the campaign, a tight race and four full days for the advance polls for the impressive results.
Lewis says national polling gives us a snapshot of what’s happening across the country but we often don’t really know what is happening at the local level.
