The Minister of Natural Resources is downplaying rumours that the province plans to introduce hunting and fishing licence fees for seniors.
A posting on the Environmental Bill of Rights confirms the Ministry is looking for ways of increasing revenues.
However, Natural Resources Minister Bill Mauro says no decision has been made yet on how to do that.
Mauro confirms they are conducting an internal review and states they need the licensing fees to carry out valuable research in the province.
He says it cost $5-million for the moose aerial wildlife inventory in several wildlife management units in northwestern Ontario and the investment found that moose numbers significantly went down.
Natural Resources Critic for the Conservatives Jeff Yurek says there’s been a 31% increase in the amount of money generated by hunting and fishing fees and questions why changes are needed.
