An alarming study on the mental health of students has Dryden Mental Health Counsellor Maureen Sullivan speaking out.
Sullivan says it’s very concerning that 15% of Ontario youth rated their mental health as fair to poor.
Sullivan notes there are a high number of youth here at home who are struggling with their mental health.
She says poverty, isolation and a lack of resources are factors that impact the mental health of students in the community.
The study also found that 28% of teens reported they don’t know where to go for help.
Sullivan says a number of services are available for local youth and adults.
She notes Firefly and the Dryden Regional Mental Health and Addictions Services are two resources available.
Sullivan adds the Crisis Response Service line is open 24/7 to help kids in need at 1-866-888-8988.
She says teens can also contact the Kids Help Phone at 1-800-669-6868.
