As if forest tent caterpillars were not enough, now there is an increase in the population of another pest.
The so-called “friendly fly” has invaded Northern Ontario.
The Ministry of Natural Resources says the friendly fly does not bite or cause harm but can be quite annoying.
On the plus side, the insects control the population of forest tent caterpillars.
This has resulted in fewer army worms this summer and there could be even fewer in the region next year.
The friendly fly invasion is expected to last until the end of July.
