Increased Fire Prevention Education Coming

The Dryden Fire Service is urging the public to do a quick check and ensure you have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.

This comes on the heels of a recent two day, door-to-door blitz in the community.

Here are the statistics from the Residential Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Inspection Program:

-Visited 83 homes
-Performed 67 inspections
-Installed 46 smoke alarms
-Installed 18 carbon monoxide alarms
-Installed 20 combination smoke and carbon monoxide alarms
-Installed 17 batteries

Fire Chief Rob Grimwood says “We’re going to take that information and we’re going to build on that program. We’re going to target public education and we’re going to make that program even stronger and robust in coming years.”

Grimwood adds “It is fairly clear that single family dwellings and regular residential homes are not at the level of safety and compliance that we need as it relates to smoke and carbon monoxide alarms.”

The Service is in the process of hiring a Fire Prevention Officer.
