The goal of ending boil water advisories in First Nations communities is on track according to the Trudeau government.
Indigenous Affairs Minister Carolyn Bennett says the government hasn’t lost sight of its promise to reserves in Ontario, Saskatchewan and B.C.
In the last budget, a $1.8-billion plan was announced to improve drinking water quality and infrastructure.
Bennett says they are making progress but notes in order for their plan to be successful they need the cooperation of First Nations and their technical staff.
She says the government is now focusing on additional efforts and expertise in critical regions, including northern Ontario.
The Nishnawbe Aski Nation says there are 37-boil water advisories currently in place in 22 NAN communities.
