Indigenous Minister Praising Regional Graduation Program

Canada’s Minister of Crown-Indigenous Relations and Northern Affairs is hoping see a regional First Nations graduation program expanded across the nation.

Carolyn Bennett got a first-hand look of the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board ‘Four Directions’ program this past week.

She says other jurisdictions are starting to follow its success.

Bennett says there is now a Four Directions program in Thunder Bay.

Dryden High School was the first to offer the program and it has since branched out to Sioux Lookout and Kenora.

It provides guidance and support for First Nations students in a bid to improve graduation rates.

Bennett says she certainly feels, from conversations with participants, that everyone should have access to its services.
