Inquest In Cat Lake First Nation Death On Hold

The Regional Coroner is postponing the inquest into the death of Romeo Wesley.

It was to begin on June 8th but is being put off because of the unavailability of legal counsel representing one of the parties involved.

34-year-old Wesley died in September 2010 while in police custody at the Cat Lake Nursing Station.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Wesley’s death and a jury is expected to make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The hearing could last two weeks and will hear from approximately 10 witnesses.

No new date has been set.
