The Ministry of Natrual Resources has beaten back the
infestation of Jackpine Bud Worm in the region.
Chemical spraying, cool damp weather, and natural
predators have contributed to the pest’s downfall.
MNR Resource Management Specialist Todd Skene says the
second stage budworm larvae population has dwindled.

Until last summer, the budworm infestation had continued
to spread through the northwest uncontrollably, affecting
more than a half a milllion hectares of forest.
