It is with great sadness that the Hanninen family announce the passing of Jorma Hanninen, who entered into rest at the age of 30, in Dryden, ON. Jorma was born in Dryden, ON on June 1, 1972 to Lila and the late Vaino Hanninen. He was educated in local schools and after his high school graduation he attended Confederation College in Thunder Bay where he earned his business-marketing diploma. Later he also earned a General Arts and Science Diploma at the College. He worked at restaurants in Dryden, Thunder Bay and Atikokan as a waiter and kitchen helper. Jorma enjoyed spending time with his family and friends but especially his nieces who could make him laugh. When he wasn’t with family and friends Jorma spent his time listening to music, singing, reading, bike riding, walking, traveling, meeting new people and volunteering. He volunteered with the Canadian Red Cross, Canadian Diabetes Association and at many shelter places for the needy while he lived in Thunder Bay. At age 25, Jorma and his sister traveled to Finland Europe to meet their father’s family (Uncles, Aunts and Cousins) most of them for the first time. This was a special time for Jorma as his father died when he was 3 years old and during this trip he was able to learn more about his father. Jorma will live forever in the memories of his family and friends left to mourn him. Lovingly remembered and survived by his mother Lila Hanninen, brothers Reino, Leo, sister Margaret (Henry) Cunningham and nieces Emma and Amy. Jorma was predeceased by his father Vaino Hanninen in 1975. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2003 at 1 :00 p.m. at the Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Dryden, ON. Pastor Noel Smith officiating. Interment of ashes at a later date.
