It’s official. Former Canadian astronaut Julie Payette is the new Governor General.
The 53 year old is the 29th person to hold the post.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls her a pioneer and trailblazer.

He says the list of her accomplishments goes on and have earned her numerous awards not only in Canada but around the world.

In her first address as Governor General, Julie Payette says together we can move mountains and push the scientific boundaries.
She says we should trust science and believe that innovations and science are good for us.
Payette says she believes anyone can accomplish anything as long as they are willing to set aside their personal agenda and work with others.
Fellow astronaut Chris Hadfield congratulated both Payette and outgoing Governor General David Johnston calling them fine examples to us all.
