There won’t be junior hockey in Kenora next season.
Council is asking the team to delay its entry into the Superior International Junior Hockey League for one year.
Councillor Dan Reynard says the timing just wasn’t right to move forward with a new team at the Kenora Rec. Center.
Reynard says possible delays with renovations at the Keewatin Arena, combined with a lack of ice time and no suitable dressing room for the team were some of the issues cited for delaying the approval.
He notes the City is supportive of the program but stresses they need to it right from the set.
