Kam River Takes Over Top Spot

There is a new number one in the Superior International Junior Hockey League.

The Kam River Fighting Walleye took over top spot on the weekend with a pair of victories at home against Red Lake.

On Saturday, the Miners coughed up a 4-1 lead, falling 5-4.

The Fighting Walleye tied the game with 1:39 to play in regulation and scored the winner 1:07 into overtime.

Ryan Hunter led the scoring for Red Lake with a pair of goals, with Nic Bolin and Jordan Baranesky adding singles.

The marker for Baranesky came on a penalty shot.

The Miners outshot Kam River 48-35.

The result was a turnaround from Friday night as the Fighting Walleye smothered Red Lake with a 6-2 victory.

The Miners were outshot 62-45 in that match-up.

Noah Kramps and Carter Albrecht recorded the only two goals.

Red Lake falls to third in the standings, three points behind first.
