A Northern Ontario MP is calling on the Federal
Government to take immediate action on the suicide crisis
in Kashechewan.
NDP Member Charlie Angus says over the past month, 21
young people have attempted suicide, the youngest being 9
years old.
Angus would like to see reserve schools receive the same
resources for special education, schooling and youth at
risk programs that exist in other communities.
The Timmins James Bay MP says it’s time for the Canadian
Government to uphold a previous agreement to build a new
community for the remote first nation.
Angus adds the government needs to take the lead in
addressing the failure of education funding for all First
Nations.
