A massive fire at a wood mill in Nipigon that triggered
a state of emergency and fears of a large evacuation is
now fully contained.
Mayor Richard Harvey says the community is devastated by
the loss of Multiply’s Mill.
In the town of about 18-hundred, the mill employed 150
people.
A local group purchased the plant in December and was
planning to spend $4-million to modernize it.
Workers had agreed to loan the new owners $300,00 and
the Province kicked in another $400,000.
The Ontario Government has suggested that it might offer
financial support for rebuilding.
