KDSB Asking Province To Take Another Look At Funding Formula

The Provincial Government is being asked to take a close look at its First Nations funding formula for medical care and transports in the Kenora district.
Services Board Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall says the current formula is outdated and the board is questioning how the government arrives at its yearly population totals used for funding allocations.
The province basis its funding on the cost of doing business as well as municipal and aboriginal populations.
The current formula hasn’t been looked at by the province since 2007 and the KDSB stresses they have seen a huge influx of aboriginal patients and calls seeking care in major centres since that time.
Wall says they don’t want to compromise their level of patient care and want to ensure they have the resources necessary to deal with a transfer call.
He says right now the system is taxing on the KDSB to do the transfers and be prepared for emergency calls.
The KDSB is also asking the province to staff a night time crew in Sioux Lookout.
