The Chief Administrative Officer of the Kenora District Services Board is hoping to see the ‘Homeward Bound’ program expanded across the region.
The Dryden-based initiative aims to provide single Indigenous moms with housing, education, employment and childcare opportunities.
Henry Wall says they have to do a better job to prepare our families for the jobs that exist today.
Wall notes as a region we spend thousands of dollars a year trying to recruit talent and people for jobs that exist in our home communities
Wall says the potential opportunities under this program are “limitless”.
He believes this plan will be the future of filling job vacancies with qualified workers.
The KDSB is starting small with plans to build a housing complex at the Pinewood School site in Dryden.
