KDSB Looking To Work With Province On Child Poverty Rates

Some troubling data has been released on child poverty rates in northwestern Ontario.

The riding of Kenora has one of the highest rates in Canada at almost 35%, a figure District Services Board Chief Administrative Officer Henry Wall calls unacceptable.

Wall says for our region to be seventh, in terms of the level of child poverty, is awful.

He adds that we are eighth in the entire country for lone parent household poverty rates.

Wall says the KDSB will continue to do what it needs to do that the new provincial government is aware of the problem and comes to the table to help find solutions.

He stresses there is a current issue of wealth redistribution as to how communities and agencies are supported in the northwest.
