Three Fires Continue To Burn

It was a quiet weekend for forest fire crews across the northwest, with only four new starts reported on Canada Day.

All of the fires are reported out or being observed.

There are 38-active fires in the region, only three listed as not under control.

12 crews are concentrating on two fires that have merged into one near North Spirit Lake First Nation.

That blaze is listed at over 28,000 hectares in size but headway is being made on containing it.

Ten crews have been able to make headway on an out of control blaze about eight kilometres southwest of Sachigo Lake.

It is burning at 200-hectares in size.

Ten crews are battling a wild fire about 30-kilometres west of Pikangikum.

It’s being mapped at about 156-hectares in size.

The forest fire hazard remains low to moderate across the region.

There are pockets of high conditions in the Dryden and Sioux Lookout districts.
