KDSB Members Will Get More Money For Meetings

The next members of the Kenora District Services Board will have a little more cash in their pocket for attending committee and board meetings.
The Board voted 7-3 in favour of a modest pay hike at its meeting in Dryden Thursday.

The current ANNUAL honoraria for members is $1,000 and that will go up to $2,000. At the same time, there is a slight increase in ‘per meeting’ honoraria of $125 per meeting, up from $115.

The KDSB stresses that the current rates are the lowest in Ontario and haven’t been changed since 1999.
The money will only be paid out to those who attend a meeting in person, something that concerns Lake of the Woods South representative Irene Kember.
Kember voted against the move, stressing members should still get paid if they attend a meeting via video conference.

Sioux Lookout Mayor Dennis Leney and Kenora Councilor Louis Roussin also voted against the increase, noting it’s not needed right now.

The change is effective January 1st, 2015.
