A number of aging housing units owned by the Kenora District Services Board will be going on the auction block later this year.
Chief Administrative Officer Dan McNeil says their isn’t much demand anymore for the roughly 30 buildings in smaller communities like Dinorwic and Minaki.
McNeil says under provincial legislation they are required to maintain the same number of social housing units.
He says the goal is to build in areas where they have significant waiting lists including Dryden, Red Lake, Sioux Lookout and Kenora.
McNeil says they are currently looking to develop some partnerships and is hoping both levels of government get involved.
