Kenora MP Greg Rickford is asking Attawapiskat Chief and Council to work the Federal Government and the third party manager, sooner, rather than later.
Chief Theresa Spence says the team that Ottawa wants to review and take over the management of her reserve’s finances is definitely not welcome.
Any costs incurred by the third party manager would not impact future funding for housing, education and social services.
Rickford is the Parliamentary Assistant for Aboriginal Affairs and says they continue to work on a Emergency Management plan to ensure everything is being done to help displaced residents.
Rickford adds the Feds are prepared to evacuate some families is that’s something Chief and Council want to do.
Meantime, Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan says he’s setting up a meeting with the Chief in a bid to resolve their impasse.
