Kenora MP Greg Rickford is feeling inspired following the Speech from the Throne. What really stood out for him was the Federal Government’s commitment to infrastructure, Aboriginal skills and training and investing in communities.
Rickford says there are a number of projects in Northwestern Ontario that need attention, and the speech confirms that they will be addressed through the National Legacy Build Canada Fund which is set to be revealed next year.
However, he adds that some of them already have been, and points specifically to the new sewage treatment plant in Dryden and the waterfront developments in Kenora.
He’s still waiting to hear what’s going to happen with the twinning of Highway 17 from Kenora to the Manitoba boundary, but is confident that will happen soon.
Rickford also commented on the Victim’s Bill of Rights, which is expected to be shifted so it offers more help for victims rather than an emphasis on the protection and rights of criminals.
In addition, Rickford says he had a chance to speak with other MP’s and First Nations leaders, who all have some positive objective statements on improving infrastructure and assisting the mining and forestry sectors.
