The federal government says it’s ready for tough negotiations with the U.S. government over softwood lumber.
Kenora MP Bob Nault says he met recently with local industry representatives and they expressed concern about the impact talks could have on the forest sector.
Nault stresses forest companies have the full support of the Trudeau Liberals.
He says if they don’t take a tough stance, they will start losing sawmills.
Nault believes the government must have a strategy in place that includes some sort of financial resources for sawmills and other lumber producers should new duties kick in.
