Kenora MP Greg Rickford says he’s eagerly awaiting today’s summit in Ottawa with the nations aboriginal leaders.
Rickford is the Parliamentary Secretary for Aboriginal Affairs and has a major role in the event.
Rickford is acting as co-emcee for the opening ceremonies.
He adds that the drummers at the opening ceremonies are all from Treaty Three.
He discounts suggestions that this is largely a ceremonial exercise.
Rickford says education, housing and economic development are the main issues that will be discussed during the one day summit.
Rickford notes the goal of the gathering is to ensure aboriginal communities are key partners in any future economic development opportunities.
