A man who claims he was wrongly accused of murder is suing the Kenora
Police Service.
Justin Carambetsos says police prosecuted him for a murder he didn’t
commit.
He was charged in the 2000 death of Max Kakegamic but a judge decided
not to proceed with his trial & condemned officers for misleading the Crown
& Defence about another suspect, a nephew of the lead investigator.
Lawyer Sean Dewart argues his client’s life was turned upside down & his
family was publicly shamed because of shoddy police work.
Police Act charges have been laid against the two lead investigators
after an external review by the OPP.
