A decision by President Barack Obama to veto the Keystone XL Pipeline project comes as no surprise to Canada’s Natural Resources Minister.
Greg Rickford says he’s been in close contact with senior officials, Congress and the Department of Energy.
He adds that dialogue will continue.
Rickford says the Canadian government is more focused on the State Department report which makes it clear the pipeline can be developed in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Rickford stresses by no means is the pipeline dead in the water.
He notes says in fact a Presidential Spokesperson stated the government would be willing to consider the State Department report in a favourable manner.
Rickford adds he understands why the President would veto as it protects his decision making capacity on major projects.
