The Legal Counsel for the remote Northern community of Big Trout Lake
says all 1,300 residents of the First Nation are prepared to go to
jail over the on-going mining dispute with Platinex.
Chris Reid says its time for the Provincial Government to come to the
table, now that 6-community leaders have been jailed.
Reid says the Northern community plans to appeal the jail sentence and notes the Province has indicated it will support the First Nation in a bid to return to the bargaining table.
Meantime, the band has decided to not allow any Federal or Provincial
Member of Parliament on the reserve and is calling on the Assembly of First
Nations to abandon its agreements with the Canadian Mining Industry.
