An invasive plant known as the beautiful killer is literally choking other plants in Northwestern Ontario and the Nature Conservancy Office is doing its part to stop its spread.
Fort Frances coordinator Neil Stewart was pleased by the turnout of volunteers on Rainy Lake Sunday and what everyone learned about the killer known as purple loosestrife.

Almost 20 volunteers dug up purple loosestrife and its roots from a wetland on Gross Island in Rainy Lake.
Although much of the plant was removed, the Nature Conservancy Office plans to return to monitor the wetland as a follow up in the near future.
