KPDSB Director Of Education Focuses On Mental Health Needs Of Students

The Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is looking for ways to improve services for students struggling with mental health issues.

Director of Education Sean Monteith points to conversations with officials from the Ministry of Education.

He says they have expended resources outside of the board to try and help students as much as possible outside of the classroom and says more needs to be done.

Monteith says the incidents of self-harm, addictions and substance abuse are greater in this region.

He also says while mental health supports are needed for schools across the province, they are needed even more here in Northwestern Ontario.
